Types of chargers and power supplies for FPV
AC/DC chargers (mains powered)
They combine a power supply and a charger in one, plug them into a wall socket at home or into an inverter in your car. Practical for pilots who do not need to carry a separate power supply and charger.
DC chargers with an external power supply
More powerful chargers for fast charging of several batteries at once. They require a DC source (a car battery or a racing power supply). Ideal for race tracks and intensive flying.
Field charging
Portable chargers compatible with a power bank or a solar panel, for pilots flying far from civilization.
What to watch when choosing a charger?
- Power (W): higher wattage = faster charging; for a 6S 1500 mAh pack you need at least 50W
- Number of channels: parallel charging or multiple channels for charging several batteries at once
- Cell chemistry support: LiPo, LiHV, LiFe, NiMH
