How do drone detectors work?
Drone detectors pick up the signals or physical signatures of unmanned aircraft nearby and alert the operator to their presence.
Types of detection systems
- RF detector: picks up the radio control signals between the drone and the controller; the most widespread and affordable solution for private and commercial use
- Acoustic sensor: recognizes the characteristic sound of drone motors; works even without an RF signal (autonomous flights)
- Optical / thermal sensor: camera-based detection with AI recognition; suitable for guarding a perimeter day and night
- Combined systems: multiple methods linked together to minimize false alarms and pinpoint the drone accurately
