An RC repeater extends the range between your transmitter and the drone by picking up the control signal and relaying it onward. It is mainly used on long-range flights, where the transmitter or receiver alone would not reach far enough, letting you fly safely well beyond their direct range.

How an RC repeater works
An RC repeater sits between the pilot and the drone and acts as a relay station: it picks up the control signal from the transmitter, boosts it, and sends it on to the receiver on the drone. This lets you fly safely at distances a direct transmitter-to-receiver link could not cover.
Supported protocols
Repeaters differ by the radio control protocol they support, most commonly CRSF or ELRS. A repeater has to use the same protocol as your transmitter and receiver, otherwise they simply will not talk to each other.
What to look for
- Supported control protocol, such as CRSF or ELRS, and compatibility with your transmitter
- Frequency band and transmit power in line with local regulations
- Power supply options and whether it suits mounting at an elevated position
- Latency added to the control link, which matters most for racing
