Video Repeaters
A video repeater extends the range of the video link between your drone and the ground station or FPV goggles. It picks up the weakening signal from the drone's video transmitter and re-broadcasts it further, keeping the picture stable at distances a direct link could not reach. It is especially useful for long-range flights, flights behind obstacles, or terrain without a clear line of sight to the pilot.

How a repeater works
In practice, a video repeater sits between the drone and the pilot, usually mounted somewhere elevated or on an antenna mast. It receives the weakened signal from the drone's video transmitter and re-transmits it at higher power towards the receiver station or goggles. This extends your flying range without changing the transmitter on the drone itself.
Analogue and digital systems
A repeater has to match the type of video transmission you use. Analogue video on 5.8 GHz works differently to digital systems such as Walksnail Avatar or HDZero, which encode the signal and so need a repeater built specifically for that ecosystem.
What to look for
- Compatibility with your video system, whether analogue or a specific digital ecosystem
- Supported frequency band, or the ability to switch between bands
- Power supply options, and whether it can be mounted somewhere without easy access to mains power
- Transmit power and whether it complies with local regulations for radio equipment
