Drone Antennas
Antennas are a key link in the FPV video system: a poor antenna shortens range and causes noise in the image, while a quality antenna significantly improves transmission clarity. Always choose matching polarization (LHCP or RHCP) on both ends of the link, on the drone and on the goggles. See VTX and FPV goggles for a complete video setup.

Antenna types for FPV drones
Omnidirectional antennas
- Dipole antenna: basic, included with most VTX; works at shorter distances
- Clover Leaf / Shamrock: circularly polarized, resistant to multipath interference; the FPV standard
- Pagoda: compact, lightweight, an excellent price to performance ratio; popular on drones
Directional antennas (for the receiver)
- Patch antenna: high gain in one direction; for long range and race tracking from a fixed spot
- Helical antenna: spiral, high gain and range; for extreme distances
Polarization, LHCP vs. RHCP
Circular polarization (Left Hand or Right Hand) significantly reduces multipath interference compared to linear antennas. The key rule: the VTX antenna and the RX antenna must have the same polarization. Mixing LHCP and RHCP causes a signal loss of up to 3 dB. See video transmission.
