Sensor types for drones
Optical flow sensor
Optical flow works much like a computer mouse: a camera under the drone tracks the movement of the terrain and feeds the data to the FC to stabilize position without GPS. Suitable for indoor flights and environments with a weak GPS signal.
Lidar / Sonar (rangefinder)
A laser or ultrasonic rangefinder measures the exact distance to the ground, more accurate than a barometer at low altitudes. Key for automatic landing and flying at a constant height above the terrain.
Barometer
Integrated in most FC; it measures altitude from air pressure. For a more accurate altitude hold we recommend covering the barometer with foam to shield it from propeller airflow.
Compatibility
