A receiver (RX) is the drone component that receives the signal from your radio and passes the commands to the flight controller. We mainly offer ExpressLRS (ELRS) receivers, today's standard in the FPV community, complemented by TBS Crossfire and FrSky, in versions for FPV drones and RC planes. How to choose a receiver for an FPV drone or RC plane?
The receiver must be compatible with your radio and flight controller. Frequency and protocol matter most: 900 MHz for long range, 2.4 GHz for low latency.
System overview
- ExpressLRS (ELRS) 2.4 GHz: the most popular choice; open-source; ultra low latency (~1 ms); 5 to 10+ km range; compatible with radios with an ELRS module
- ExpressLRS (ELRS) 900 MHz: extreme range for Long Range drones; a larger antenna; a lower refresh rate
- TBS Crossfire: a proven and reliable long-range system on 915 MHz; in popularity, however, it is giving way to ExpressLRS
- FrSky: an older 2.4 GHz system (D16 and ACCESS); now rather in decline in the FPV community, useful for complementing existing FrSky gear
Connecting to the FC
The receiver connects via UART (SBUS, CRSF or iBUS protocol). We recommend always checking that your FC has a free UART port and that Betaflight or INAV supports the given protocol. See FPV radios and flight electronics.
