How to choose the right filament?
The choice of material depends on the purpose of the print: decorative models have different requirements than functional parts exposed to mechanical stress or heat.
Overview of the most used filaments
- PLA: the most popular material; easy to print, good detail, biodegradable; not suitable for high temperatures (above 60 °C)
- PETG: combines the ease of PLA with the strength of ABS; resistant to moisture and chemicals; ideal for functional parts
- ABS / ASA: high heat resistance; ASA also withstands UV radiation; suitable for outdoor use and automotive parts
- TPU: flexible filament; for protective covers, seals, anti-slip pads
- Composites (CF, GF): filament filled with carbon or glass fibers; extreme strength and stiffness; requires hardened nozzles
